Asia Cup 2023: Ishan and Hardik lead India’s recovery with their half-centuries

After the failure coming in from India’s top-order, Hardik Pandya (87) and Ishan Kishan (82) provided much-needed impetus to team India with their sensational innings in India’s first match of the ongoing Asia Cup against arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. The high-octane battle saw India lose their top guns Rohit Sharma (11) and Virat Kohli (4) too early. Earlier, India had won the toss and decided to bat but things didn’t go India’s way at the start as Shaheen Afridi struck to dismiss Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in quick succession. Two back-to-back blows put India under pressure. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer too could not get going but Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya’s 138-run partnership released pressure from India to put them into the recovery mode. After Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan’s wickets, team India kept losing their wickets as they finished on (266) in (48.5) overs. Shaheen Afridi returned with four wickets while Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah claimed three wickets each.
