Former Indian cricketer questions Gaikwad’s absence from Indian squad

Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad found himself unexpectedly omitted from India’s squads for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka despite a stellar performance in the recently concluded T20I series against Zimbabwe. Recently, Gaikwad showcased his exceptional skills throughout the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, amassing significant runs and playing crucial roles in India’s 4-1 win.

His exclusion has also sparked considerable discussion among former cricketers. Recently, speaking on his YouTube channel, former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra questioned selector’s decision to leave out Gaikwad.

"Ruturaj Gaikwad has been left out in both formats. What did Ruturaj Gaikwad do that his name hasn't come? Six months ago, you were worthy of becoming the captain of a team, a team that had Shubman Gill who wasn't playing, but Shubman has become the vice-captain now and Ruturaj is not even part of the team, neither in T20Is nor in ODIs. Is that right?"  Chopra said.

"It's the same thing, the coach was someone else and the selection committee might have been different. They might have done something but now they are looking for change. I really hope that it's being communicated that he is being looked at for T20Is and will be considered for ODIs because, otherwise, Ruturaj Gaikwad, like Sanju Samson, will be very aggrieved. He might be feeling that he has been wronged," he added.

India will be led by Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is, while Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the side in ODIs. Following the retirement of Rohit Sharma from T20Is, along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, Suryakumar Yadav was confirmed as India’s skipper in the shortest format.
