Matthew Mott joins Sydney Sixers as assistant coach

Matthew Mott will be joining Sydney Sixers as an assistant coach, having penned a three-year deal with the franchise. The latest development follows his recent departure as head coach of England men’s white-ball team. Matthew Mott will be filling the position vacated by Cameron White, who joined Melbourne Renegades as head coach. Mott will join Greg Shipperd at Sixers. Mott is back to where his coaching career began as head coach of New South Wales Blues in 2007.
"I'm delighted to join back up with the Sydney Sixers. Having started my coaching journey in Sydney many years ago, it's a place that evokes both great memories and a comforting sense of familiarity, which I'm looking forward to. The idea of being an assistant to Greg Shipperd, who I have a tremendous amount of respect for, really appealed to me,” Mott said.
Mott’s stint with England team began on a triumphant note, with England winning the T20I World Cup title in 2022. But, his two-year reign ended in July after England made a surprise semi-final exit at the T20I World Cup 2024. England’s poor performance at the T20I World Cup 2024 followed their more distressing campaign at the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
Sydney Sixers’ General Manager Rachael Haynes was pleased to have Matthew Mott in the coaching staff.
"We couldn't be more pleased to have 'Motty' committed for the next three years with the club. When the opportunity arises to bring a coach of Motty's calibre into your ranks, it's a no-brainer. We know what a fantastic resource he will be for our playing group."
