RCB batter Rajat Patidar is gearing up to lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), beginning March 22. Patidar, who was named team’s skipper last month, has taken the reins from Faf du Plessis, who was released by the franchise ahead of the mega auction last year in November. Meanwhile, former RCB captain Virat Kohli, who remains a part of the team, has backed Patidar to lead the side for a long time.

“The guy who is going to come next, is a guy who will lead you guys for a long time. So give him all the love you can. He is an amazing talent. He is a great player, we all know that, but he has got a great head on his shoulders, and he will do a great job for this amazing franchise and take the team forward. He has got everything that's required,” Kohli said while speaking at the RCB Unbox Event.

Virat Kohli expressed his excitement for the upcoming season.

It's amazing to be back in this beautiful city, again in front of such amazing fans. Excitement and happiness as like every other season. I've been here for 18 years and I absolutely love it," said Kohli.

Speaking on his appointment, Patidar said he has loved the franchsie since the beginning.

"Legends like Virat bhai, Ab de Villiers, Chris Gayle have played for RCB. From the start I have loved the franchise a lot. I am happier that I got a new role to lead one of the biggest teams," Patidar said.

RCB will be facing Kolkata Knight Riders in the tournament opener on March 22 at Eden Gardens.
