IPL 2025 suspended for one week amid rising India-Pakistan tensions
With India-Pakistan tensions escalating, the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL) has been suspended for one week due to security reasons. The decision follows Thursday’s clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala, which was called off midway. The match was abandoned after 10.1 overs due to “a significant technical failure”. Over the past few days, there have been mounting military tensions between the neighbouring countries, prompting the suspension of the league by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
"The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans," BCCI said.
"While the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders."
So far, 58 matches have been played in the IPL, and 16 matches are left to be played. Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad have been eliminated from the tournament following their dismal show. While GT, RCB, PBKS and MI are dominating the top four positions in the points table, respectively.
