Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, sharing his views on Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket, has stated that the decorated Indian opener’s days were numbered. Manjrekar pointed out that Rohit scored just 164 runs in his last 15 innings. Rohit, meanwhile, announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7 but maintained that he would continue playing ODIs.

Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20Is after leading India to the T20I World Cup title last year, had come under fire for his highly disappointing performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy a few months back.

"164 in his last 15 innings. Out of which 10 were at home v Bangladesh & NZ. Average 10.9. With his current fitness levels...Rohit Sharma's days as Test opener were over. So...," wrote Manjrekar on X.

Rohit Sharma’s retirement came ahead of the blockbuster five-match Test series against England in June. He represented India in 67 Tests, amassing 4301 runs at an average of 40.57, with 12 centuries.
