England’s pre-Ashes preparations were dealt a jolt on Thursday when fast bowler Mark Wood was forced off the field with hamstring stiffness during the tour match against the England Lions at Lilac Hill Park in Perth.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed in a press release that Wood is to undergo a precautionary scan on Friday to assess the severity of the issue. The pacer bowled a planned eight overs, ending his spell with no wicket. Shortly after completing the second spell, he left the field and did not return for the remainder of the session.

Notably, this is Wood’s first outing since England’s Champions Trophy match against Afghanistan in Lahore in February earlier this year, as he has been out of action due to a knee injury that required him to undergo surgery.
