There is huge uncertainty prevailing over Indian captain Shubman Gill's presence in the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati, set to begin on November 22. Shubman Gill, who retired hurt in the first innings of the first Test in Kolkata due to a neck issue, remains a doubtful starter for the second Test.

On Day 2 of the first Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Shubman Gill came out to bat and, after facing just three balls, hit a slog-sweep off South African spinner Simon Harmer for four. But soon after smashing that shot, he immediately appeared to be in discomfort, holding the back of his neck. Speaking on Gill's presence, Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak asserted that a call on Gill's availability will be taken tomorrow.

"Gill is recovering really well. Now, the decision will be taken tomorrow evening. Even if he's fully recovered, we have to ensure he doesn't spasm in the game again. The doctor and physio's concern is this. If they're sure it won't happen, then he'll play. Else he will rest for another game," Sitanshu Kotak said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

India had lost the first game by 30 runs to go 0-1 down in the two-match series. Notably, if Gill remains unavailable for the second Test, then Rishabh Pant is expected to step in as the stand-in captain.
