Australia stick with unchanged squad for day–night Ashes Test at the Gabba, Cummins left out
Australian selectors have confirmed an unchanged 14-man squad for the second Ashes Test in Brisbane, opting for stability as the series heads into its highly anticipated day–night clash at the Gabba on Thursday. The biggest surprise is the absence of captain Pat Cummins, whose return has been delayed.
Cummins, who missed the first Test in Perth, has once again been left out as the selectors take a cautious approach to his reintegration into the side. Veteran opener Usman Khawaja has been included and is expected to take his place at the top of the order. Khawaja suffered back spasms that prevented him from batting in the second innings in Perth, prompting Travis Head to open the innings for Australia.
Australia, who already have a commanding start to the series already in hand, will aim to extend their advantage under the lights at a venue where they hold a formidable Test record.
