Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya announced his return to competitive cricket in a dominant fashion, delivering a match-winning performance against Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Tuesday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Pandya led Baroda to a seven-wicket victory against Punjab with a match-defining 77 unbeaten off 42. His skillful knock included seven fours and four sixes.

This was Pandya's first competitive outing since India's 2025 Asia Cup Super 4 match against Sri Lanka. Pandya had spent several weeks on the sidelines after suffering an injury during the Asia Cup. Due to the injury, he had missed the Asia Cup final against Pakistan and the subsequent white-ball series against Australia.

Now, Pandya is set to feature in the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa beginning December 9, and his latest performance is a reminder of his status as one of the great all-rounders.

Chasing Punjab's 222, Baroda enjoyed a spectacular start with openers Vishnu Solanki and Shashwat Rawat firing 43 and 31, respectively. Meanwhile, Shivalik Sharma retired hurt after scoring a magnificent 47 off 31. Later Pandya struck an unbeaten 77 off 42 balls to take the side home. Jitesh Sharma was also unbeaten on 6 off 4 balls.
