Sydney Sixers off to a resounding start with a crushing 8-run win over Melbourne Renegades

Sydney Sixers thrashed Melbourne Renegades in the second match of the ongoing Big Bash League tournament on Friday at Sydney Cricket Ground. Defending the total of 175, Sydney Sixers restricted Melbourne Renegades to 167/7 in (20) overs, thus winning the game by (8) runs. Asked to bat, Sydney Sixers had a successive start with Josh Philippe and Steve Smith scoring (29) and (61) respectively. Down the order, they were propelled by Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk who both scored (40) and (26*) respectively to power the side to a fighting score of (175) in (20) overs after losing (6) wickets. Steve Smith registered a cracking start to his Big Bash League campaign with a fine 61-run innings coming in the first match. Chasing the target, Renegades' Nic Maddinson and Joe Clarke lost their wickets in quick succession as they both could only get six runs each in their tally. Jake Fraser made a big mark with his 48-run score but Jordan Cox lost his wicket for a duck. Aaron Finch kept the side in the game with his knock of (33) but couldn’t be enough with Renegades losing their wickets at regular intervals. Will Sutherland remained unbeaten with his half-century.
