AUS vs WI 1st T20I: Warner’s stellar knock propels Australia to 11-run win

Despite West Indies’ strong resistance, Australia maintained their dominance to complete their 11-run win in the first T20I match against West Indies on Friday at Blundstone Arena to take 1-0 lead in the three-match series. It remained a memorable day for opener David Warner whose 70-run knock turned out to be extremely pivotal in Australia’s victory.
Asked to bat, Australia were helped by David Warner in their batting order to power them to a challenging total of 213 with his 70-run score. Alongside him, Josh Inglis and Tim David also played major knocks of 39 and 37* to help Australia reach a commanding total.
Chasing the target, West Indies got off to a flying start with Brandon King and Johnson Charles giving them optimistic feelings with their knocks of (53) and (42) respectively. Once that partnership between King and Charles was broken, West Indies couldn’t make their way back into the game with Australian spinner Adam Zampa chipping in with three crucial breakthroughs.
For West Indies, Jason Holder fought hard till the end with his unbeaten 34 as they fell 11 runs short of victory score. West Indies would hope to bounce back strongly in the second game at Adelaide.
