Former Indian bowling coach talks about Arshdeep’s future in Test cricket
Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh’s barnstorming finish to the T20I World Cup 2024 has left everyone impressed after young star helped team India win the title with 17 wickets. His left-arm bowling had been the game changer in India’s campaign and more importably he has lived up to the expectations from the management.
Arshdeep Singh has delivered his services for India in T20Is and ODIs, but he is yet to demonstrate his talent in Tests. However, former Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey believes that Arshdeep may be set for the first crack at demonstrating his abilities in Test when India play Australia later this year. Mhambrey feels that Arshdeep might get an opportunity if India decide to play four seamers.
“It depends on the conditions. Maybe in Australia, if we play four seamers, he has a chance. To get one in India will be very difficult at the moment. But I feel he just needs a little more game time in first-class cricket, just to get control over his swing and also know how to use reverse-swing, which will be very handy. He has the swing that works for him. It is about maintaining fitness and working on it. At the moment, he may not be a starter in Tests, but isn’t far away,” Mhambrey told Indian Express.
Arshdeep Singh has played 52 T20 matches so far. He has also played for India in six ODIs.
