Dinesh Karthik to play for Paarl Royals at SA20

Indian veteran Dinesh Karthik is set to make his maiden foray into the South Africa’s T20 league SA20. Dinesh Karthik will be playing for Paarl Royals in the upcoming season of the league, becoming the first Indian player to make his appearance in the tournament. The wicket-keeper batter recently retired from Indian cricket after playing IPL 2024 for RCB.
Recently, Dinesh Karthik was also named as the league ambassador at SA20. Soon after retiring from IPL at the end of 2024 season, Dinesh Karthik was appointed RCB’s mentor and batting coach.
Meanwhile, Paarl Royals’ explosive batter Jos Buttler will not be returning for the third season as he will be focusing on international cricket. In their last season, Paarl Royals crashed out of the tournament in the eliminator. They are led by David Miller. Dinesh Karthik, on the other hand, has played over 400 T20 matches, carrying a huge wealth of experience.
"I have so many fond memories of playing in and visiting South Africa. When this opportunity came about, I couldn't say no because of how special it would be to come back to playing competitive cricket and win this incredible competition with the Royals,” Karthik said.
"Even though I didn't have the chance to represent the Royals in the IPL, to me it was always a franchise setup and environment that was very attractive as a player. I am delighted to be joining the Paarl Royals team which oozes a lot of experience, quality and potential. I am certainly looking forward to joining the group and contributing to what should be an exciting season."
