MI Cape Town made history on Saturday, securing their maiden SA20 title with a commanding victory over the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, in a thrilling final at The Wanderers Stadium on Saturday. MI Cape Town, with an all-around performance, overcame Sunrisers with a whopping 76-run victory.

Deciding to bat, MI Cape Town set the tone early with the explosive innings from Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton, bringing up (23) and (33) respectively.  Down the order, Connor Esterhuizen and Dewald Brevis’ powerful knocks of (39) and (38) respectively helped the side post a total of 181/8 in 20 overs.

Chasing a heavy total of 182 for victory, Sunrisers Eastern Cape were met with a rocky start after their batter David Bedingham lost his wicket for four runs. MI Cape Town bowlers came out firing from the outset, applying pressure right from the first over.

Kagiso Rabada and skipper Rashid Khan were the standout performers, bowling a lethal spell to dismantle the Sunrisers’ top order. Sunrisers were bowled out for just 105 in 18.4 overs, with players like Aiden Markram, Tristan Stubbs and Marco Jansen failing to stand up for the team when it mattered the most.
