Fakhar Zaman rubbishes retirement talks
Pakistan’s explosive batter Fakhar Zaman has recently dismissed rumours about his potential retirement from cricket following Pakistan’s appalling campaign at the Champions Trophy. This follows a challenging moment in his career where his Champions Trophy 2025 campaign was cut short due to an unfortunate injury.
Fakhar’s Champions Trophy journey came to an abrupt halt during Pakistan’s opening match against New Zealand, when he sustained a strain in his oblique muscle. He suffered the injury while fielding, attempting to prevent the ball from reaching the boundary. His distress was evident as he winced in pain, and the injury was significant enough to force him off the field. Later, he also came out to bat but was visibly in pain, losing his wicket for 24 off 41. Even, Pakistan lost the game by 60 runs. Dismissing the rumours, Fakhar Zaman said that there is no truth to all this.
"I have also heard about this a lot and even my friends messaged me a lot about it, but there's nothing like this,” Fakhar told PCB in an interview.
"The ODI format is my favourite format. Yes with my thyroid, there was a thing that I could take more time getting back to cricket. But I want to play T20s, ODIs, even Tests again. As far as my comeback is concerned, I spoke to the doctor and I feel, I can start playing cricket again within a month."
Fakhar Zaman has played 86 ODIs for Pakistan and has scored 3651 runs with an average of 46.21. His highest score in ODIs is 210.
