Jadeja opens up about CSK captaincy in 2022

CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja faced a significant setback during IPL 2022 when he was unexpectedly dismissed as captain mid-season. The decision came after the team's underwhelming performance under his captaincy. During IPL 2022, Jadeja stepped in as captain following MS Dhoni’s decision to step down. Meanwhile, under his leadership, CSK struggled, remaining at the bottom of the standings. Mid-season, Jadeja was relieved of his captaincy, raising rumours of friction between him and the franchise. However, Jadeja returned to play the 2023 season.
“It was difficult. In T20 cricket, every ball is an event. It is a fast game, but for me it was an experience. I could have done better. As a captain, if you are team is not doing well then all the blame falls on the captaincy. Thinking, bowling changes, fielding chances. Unfortunately, the team was not doing well. If we were winning and everyone was contributing, then it was not rocket science,” Jadeja said on Ravichandran Ashwin's YouTube channel.
“Sometimes, normal things work, but when your players, batters, and bowlers don’t contribute, you cannot win in the T20 format,” he said.
Talking about CSK’s campaign in IPL 2025, they finished tenth in the points table with four wins in fourteen games. Meanwhile, Jadeja is gearing up for India's upcoming five-match Test series against England.
