Ravi Shastri highlights turning point in India’s defeat at Lord’s

England sealed a decisive 22-run win over India in the third Test match at Lord’s to go 2-1 up in the five-match series. On day five (Monday), India’s pursuit of 193 looked lifeless after a horrible collapse of top-order batters made things messy for the visitors. However, Ravindra Jadeja kept putting life into the chase with his firm batting, but it all ended in a heartbreaking loss for India. Sharing his thoughts on India’s loss, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri highlighted the key moments in the game that shifted the momentum in England’s favour. Shastri felt that Rishabh Pant’s dismissal in the first innings and Karun Nair’s in the second innings played a pivotal role in England gaining the upper hand.

“The turning point for me in this Test match was, first of all, Rishabh Pant's dismissal [in the first innings],” Ravi Shastri said on The ICC Review.

Shastri hailed England skipper Ben Stokes for showing “presence of mind” to run out Pant to turn the tide in hosts' favour.

“Ben Stokes, simply outstanding presence of mind to hit at the right end and pull it off on the stroke of lunch. Because India would have got a lead and they were in the driver's seat.”

“Having said that, again at 40/1 (in the second innings), I thought that was a huge lapse in concentration from Karun Nair to leave a straight ball, a nothing ball, to leave it and open the door for England. I thought that the timing of that dismissal turned things around," Shastri said.

Despite the best efforts from Indian tailenders alongside all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, they fell short by 22 runs to trail 1-2 in the five-match series. Meanwhile, the fourth Test match will begin on July 23 in Manchester.
