Rishabh Pant out of West Indies Test series: Reports
India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is likely to be ruled out of the upcoming Test series against West Indies, following a left foot fracture sustained during the fourth Test of the England series in Manchester, reported ESPNcricinfo. The injury has come as a significant blow to the Indian team setup, and Pant, who is still recovering from the injury, is unlikely to recover in time for the big series.
The incident occurred during the fiercely contested fourth Test in Manchester, where Pant visibly struggled with discomfort. Despite his injury, he exhibited immense grit by walking out to bat in the first innings, limping between the wickets and clearly in pain. He played an impressive 54-run innings, which earned him a lot of praise.
Due to injury, Pant was ruled out of the fifth and final Test at The Oval, with Tamil Nadu batter and wicketkeeper N. Jagadeesan being named as his replacement in the squad.
Meanwhile, Pant is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Dhruv Jurel is likely to keep the wickets for India in Pant's absence. Notably, apart from his services in the fourth and fifth Tests, Jurel had also served as wicketkeeper for the third Test at Lord’s. Dhruv is currently part of the India A squad in Lucknow, playing against Australia A. The first Test against West Indies will be held in Ahmedabad from October 2 to 6, followed by the second Test in New Delhi from October 10 to 14.
