Australia have received a major boost ahead of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide, with captain Pat Cummins returning to the squad. His comeback is the only adjustment to the 15-man group named for next week’s match, as Australia aim to continue their momentum and push for a series-sealing victory.

With a large squad for the Adelaide Test, selectors will have the flexibility in the lead-up to the third Test. With Cummins back and veteran spinner Nathan Lyon also expected to rejoin the playing XI, Australia will look to field a more balanced attack suited to Adelaide’s conditions.

Notably, Cummins was forced out of the opening Ashes fixtures due to a back issue, but medical staff have now cleared him to resume leadership duties and spearhead the bowling attack. Lyon, meanwhile, is on track to reclaim his position after being left out of the second Test in which Australia claimed an eight-wicket victory at the Gabba.

Australia squad: Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster
