"It is very important to keep putting pressure on yourself": Varun Chakravarthy

India’s preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026 are beginning to take shape, and at the heart of the spin department stands Varun Chakravarthy. As India look ahead to defending their world title at the tournament scheduled from February 7 to March 8 across India and Sri Lanka, Chakravarthy has stressed a disciplined approach and outlined the value of staying confident under pressure and keeping challenging himself.
"It is very important to keep putting pressure on yourself to get ready for the World Cup. You have to challenge yourself even when there is no challenge. If you feel there is no challenge in a particular match, you have to create that pressure mentally and start challenging yourself," Varun said on 'Follow The Blues' on JioHotstar.
Chakravarthy brings experience to India’s T20I setup. His numbers warrant his impact with 51 wickets in 32 T20Is. Moreover, his form in the ongoing five-match series against South Africa has further strengthened his case. According to Chakravarthy, trusting his skills and sticking to the basics has helped him a lot.
"It is very important to play at the highest level so that you know where you stand. In my first match at the international level, I did struggle with certain things, but then I was able to understand a few things. I went back to practice and made corrections. So, it is very important to keep playing at the highest level."
