Bangladesh suspends IPL broadcast following Mustafizur Rahman's removal from KKR squad

The Bangladesh government has ordered an indefinite suspension of the broadcast of the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the removal of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad ahead of the upcoming season of the IPL.
In an official statement issued on January 5, authorities confirmed that all IPL-related broadcasts and promotional activities will be banned with immediate effect. As per the statement, the decision had been taken "in the public interest."
The directive applies to television, digital platforms, advertising campaigns, and any event coverage linked to the league. The move follows KKR's announcement to release Mustafizur from the IPL 2026 squad. His removal has triggered widespread outrage in Bangladesh. It is worth noting that Bangladesh have also declined to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026, citing concern "regarding the safety and security" of their players.
