Australia capped off their Ashes campaign with a memorable five-wicket victory in Sydney on Thursday, sealing a dominant 4–1 series win after a final-day chase that in some ways tested their nerve. Chasing a relatively small target of 160 after England were dismissed for 342 in the morning session, Australia were challenged on a surface offering uneven bounce and late movement.

Exploiting the conditions pretty well, England took early wickets, reviving hope in the England camp. Australia’s top-order batters struggled to impose themselves, with regular breakthroughs keeping them in trouble. England’s bowlers, on the other hand, maintained pressure throughout, forcing Australia to work hard in a tense situation. But the calm for Australia finally prevailed through the middle order.

Alex Carey showing the composure amid the tension. Another reliable batter, Cameron Green, showed courage to steer Australia home. Carey ended unbeaten on 16, while Green’s steady 22 played a key role. The victory is hugely special for Australia, as it marked the final Test for Usman Khawaja, who, ahead of the final Test, had announced his retirement from international cricket.

"It means a lot. So much has gone into it. The only thing I wanted was a win, finish off the Ashes with a win as much as I wanted to hit the winning runs. I am just grateful for one last final win," said Khawaja, who ended his career on a high note.

"I was trying to act cool, but the whole Test match I found it really hard to control my emotions. I am proud of myself for being able to control my emotions. I'm grateful I've had the career that I've had. I have full gratitude," Khawaja said.
