Washington Sundar ruled out of NZ ODIs, Ayush Badoni called up

India have suffered a huge setback in their ongoing ODI series against New Zealand, with all-rounder Washington Sundar, being ruled out of the remaining two matches due to injury. Sundar suffered a side strain during the first ODI at Vadodara on Sunday.
Sundar’s injury became evident early in the match when he was unable to complete his full quota of overs. He bowled only five overs before discomfort in his side prevented him from continuing. Despite the injury, Sundar showed determination by coming out to bat at No. 8 during India’s chase.
"Washington Sundar reported an acute onset discomfort in his left lower rib area while bowling during the first ODI against New Zealand at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara, on Sunday. He will undergo further scans, following which the BCCI Medical Team will seek expert opinion," the BCCI said in a statement on Monday.
He struggled while running between wickets but managed to score 7 runs as India sealed a four-wicket win. India’s chase lower in the order was steadied by KL Rahul, who played a composed and responsible knock of 29 unbeaten. After the match, India captain Shubman Gill revealed that Washington suffered a side strain.
"He has got a side strain. He will go for a scan after the match," India skipper Shubman Gill said after the match.
Meanwhile, India have called up Ayush Badoni as Sundar's replacement, handing him his maiden international call-up. Badoni, who has featured in 27 List A matches, has one hundred and five fifties.
