Wicketkeeper-batter Haider Shah has been approved to join the United Arab Emirates (UAE) squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, coming in for Muhammad Zohaib, who was sent home ahead of the UAE’s match against New Zealand. The ICC's Event Technical Committee (ETC) granted its approval for Haider’s inclusion on Wednesday.

Zohaib’s sudden removal from the squad happened just ahead of UAE’s game against New Zealand on Tuesday. The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) cited “disciplinary reasons” for sending him home and stated that further details would be shared in due course.

"Zohaib was withdrawn from the squad due to player mental well-being and team welfare issues," the ICC said in a statement.

As for Haider Shah, he has represented UAE in 18 T20Is, boasting a batting average of 19.25 and a strike rate of 116.66.
