"CSK is incomplete without MS Dhoni": Ex-India star drops massive hint ahead of IPL 2026

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, reflecting on the immense impact of MS Dhoni on the Chennai Super Kings, said that the legendary wicketkeeper-batter could be approaching the final chapter of his remarkable journey in the Indian Premier League. At the same time, Pathan said that the franchise would be incomplete without the iconic leader.
Since the league began back in 2008, Dhoni has been one of the most vital figures. For millions of fans, Dhoni is not just a player for CSK—he is the identity of the franchise itself. As Dhoni prepares to play the 19th season of the IPL, there is palpable excitement among millions of fans to see their icon back in yellow colors.
“CSK is incomplete without MS Dhoni. This season might be the last time we see him in the yellow jersey, and it's tough to imagine CSK and the IPL without him. This season, Dhoni will play an important role in bringing everyone together. I'm not sure how many games he will play. But his presence in the dressing room will help a lot. Ruturaj Gaikwad is the leader. But as a group, two or three guys are being groomed for the future. That is where MS Dhoni comes in. I hope he makes a difference," Pathan said on JioHotstar.
Over the years, he has played 278 matches in the tournament, scoring 5,439 runs while often taking on the role of a finisher in high-pressure situations. His composure under pressure and ability to guide younger players have made him one of the most respected figures in the league.
“Questions about his fitness, batting position, and whether he will play all games will still come up. The CSK team management will take it step by step. They will definitely look to give him a perfect farewell by lifting their sixth IPL trophy,” he added.
Notably, ahead of the 2024 season, Dhoni stepped down from the captaincy to pass the responsibility to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, his leadership presence has remained invaluable. Last season, when Gaikwad was ruled out due to injury, Dhoni briefly took charge again, guiding the side in the remaining games.
