SRH's David Payne ruled out of IPL 2026
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s campaign in the Indian Premier League 2026 has been dealt another setback, with seamer David Payne ruled out for the rest of the tournament due to an ankle injury. His departure adds to a growing list of injury concerns within the squad. Payne had recently joined the franchise as a replacement for Australian fast bowler Jack Edwards, who himself was sidelined ahead of the start of the season with a foot problem. Payne only featured in two matches for SRH.
In his debut appearance against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Payne picked up two wickets while leaking 35 runs in three overs. However, his second outing against Kolkata Knight Riders remained costly as he went wicketless and gave away 35 runs in two overs.
It comes days after England allrounder Brydon Carse was also forced out after sustaining a hand injury during a training session at the beginning of the season. Carse did not feature in any matches. Nonetheless, SRH will be content with the news that their captain Pat Cummins has been cleared to rejoin the squad after undergoing scans on his back in Sydney.
