West Indies name squad for Sri Lanka ODIs, Hetmyer returns

West Indies have named their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, beginning on June 3 at Sabina Park. West Indies have received a timely boost to their squad with the return of a few experienced players as they begin preparations for next year's ICC Cricket World Cup. Shimron Hetmyer and pace spearhead Alzarri Joseph are set to make their comeback to the ODI setup.
Hetmyer has been out of West Indies' ODI squad for nearly a year, and his timely return will be a big boost. The left-hander last represented West Indies in ODIs during the home series against England in June 2025. Since then, he has not featured in ODIs for West Indies, missing crucial assignments against Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. Though he was really impactful during the T20 World Cup earlier this year, scoring 248 runs.
Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph is another major returnee. Having spent time on the sidelines due to injury, Joseph's comeback will be a massive boost to the team's pace attack. The squad has also welcomed back left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, who missed West Indies' tour of New Zealand last year.
βSri Lanka are a disciplined and skilful ODI unit, especially in conditions that demand patience and smart cricket. For us, this series is about setting the standard, intensity in the field, clarity with the bat, and consistency with the ball," West Indies head coach Daren Sammy said.
"We want to play fearless but intelligent cricket and continue building the identity we believe West Indies cricket should represent.β
West Indies squad: Shai Hope (c), Ackeem Auguste, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Shimron Hetmyer, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales, Shamar Springer
