UAE batter Asif Khan handed 15-month ban
UAE batter Asif Khan has been handed a 15-month suspension after returning a positive test for a prohibited substance. The substance detected was a metabolite of mesterolone, a banned substance under anti-doping regulations. The positive result came from an out-of-competition sample collected from Asif on 8 September 2025.
“The 36-year-old admitted to a violation of Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code and accepted the sanction through a Case Resolution Agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Cricket Council (ICC)," the ICC said in a statement.
Asif’s suspension has been backdated to the date on which his sample was collected. His period of ineligibility began on 8 September 2025 and will end on December 7, 2026. Asif can return to training with a team and use the facilities of a club or another organisation affiliated with an ICC member from October 8, 2026. Meanwhile, he will become eligible to play competitive cricket again from December 8, 2026.
“Asif will be permitted to return to training with a team or use the facilities of a club or other ICC Member organisation from 8 October 2026, but will only be eligible to return to competitive cricket from 8 December,” the statement said.
Asif’s individual results from 8 September 2025 through 29 December 2025 have been disqualified.
“This includes all resulting consequences, such as the loss of any medals, points, prize money or prizes.”
