“That’s all for show”: Stuart Broad hits out at Pakistan batter Imam-ul-Haq
Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad has questioned Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq’s decision to appear on the field with a heavily strapped calf during the second Test at Lord’s, asserting that the batter’s actions may have been aimed more at the television cameras than at preparing for a genuine return to the crease. Imam was ruled out of the remainder of the Test after suffering a calf injury while fielding during England’s first innings.
The injury had already been a concern for Pakistan before the Lord’s Test. Imam had experienced discomfort in his left calf during the opening Test at Headingley. He required medical attention while scoring 42 in Pakistan’s first innings and subsequently had the affected area strapped.
Questions started to swirl on the fourth day when Imam was seen knocking the ball around while wearing strapping on his calf. There were also reports that Pakistan could send him out to bat if the situation became critical during their chase of a challenging 389-run target.
“That’s all for show. He has got a bit of stick from media and maybe his teammates. Whatever. You can do that inside the indoor school without anyone seeing, don’t have to come wearing shorts and tape and hobble around like that. I am not impressed with that. Sorry,” he said on Sky Sports.
Meanwhile, Pakistan crashed to a disappointing 194-run loss in the second Test at Lord’s on Sunday to go 0-2 down in the series. The third and final Test will begin on September 9 at Edgbaston.
