Marnus Labuschagne survives axe as Australia name squad for South Africa Test tour
Australia have unveiled a full-strength 16-man squad for their upcoming three-match Test tour of South Africa, with Marnus Labuschagne retaining his place in the side. Labuschagne has endured a difficult period with the bat, yet he has managed to earn selectors' confidence. This tour will be quite crucial for him because his last Test century came in July 2023.
The squad also features Travis Head and Steve Smith, Matthew Renshaw, young talent Cooper Connolly and Cameron Green, strengthening the team’s batting. Australia have also stacked their pace department with familiar faces in Scott Boland, Josh Hazlewood, Michael Neser and Mitchell Starc. Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann has also earned a place in the side.
The series, which begins in Durban on October 9, will be the first Test meetings between Australia and South Africa since their clash in last year's World Test Championship Final at Lord's. These three Tests are important for both teams, with a place in next year's ICC World Test Championship Final hanging in the balance.
