India opener Shafali Verma has been reprimanded and handed one demerit point for breaching the players’ code of conduct during the second T20I against Zimbabwe on Sunday.

Verma was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match," an ICC release stated.

The incident occurred during the 12th over of Zimbabwe’s innings, when Shafali failed to hold on to a catch and threw the ball to the ground in frustration. Shafali admitted the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee GS Lakshmi. As she admitted the offence there was no need for a formal disciplinary hearing.

Under the ICC Code of Conduct, Level 1 violations carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand. The maximum punishment carries a fine of 50 per cent of a player's match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
