Mumbai Indians (MI) have appointed former India batter Robin Uthappa as their batting coach ahead of the IPL 2027 season as part of a major reshuffle in their coaching staff. The franchise has also brought in former New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan as bowling coach, T Dilip as fielding coach and Dhawal Kulkarni as development bowling coach. The new coaching staff will work under head coach Kieron Pollard, who recently replaced Mahela Jayawardene. Mumbai Indians have also parted ways with bowling coaches Lasith Malinga and Paras Mhambrey, along with fielding coach Carl Hopkinson, as the franchise prepares for the upcoming season.

Uthappa and McClenaghan are familiar faces at Mumbai Indians, having represented the franchise during their playing careers. Uthappa featured for MI in the inaugural IPL season in 2008, scoring 320 runs in 14 matches. He later represented five other IPL franchises and won titles with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 and Chennai Super Kings in 2021. Across 205 IPL matches, he scored 4,952 runs. McClenaghan, meanwhile, played for Mumbai Indians between 2015 and 2019, taking 71 wickets in 56 matches. He was part of the franchise's title-winning campaigns in 2015 and 2019.

Dhawal Kulkarni also has a strong association with Mumbai Indians, having represented the franchise from 2008 to 2013 and again in 2020 and 2021. He was part of MI's title-winning teams in 2013 and 2020. The former India pacer played 12 ODIs and two T20Is for the national side. T Dilip, who has been appointed fielding coach, previously served as India's fielding coach from 2021 until the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024-25 and returned to the role for another year in 2025.

The first major assignment for Pollard and his revamped coaching team will be the IPL 2027 mini-auction, scheduled to take place on December 16 in Goa. The new appointments signal Mumbai Indians' preparations for the next season as they look to build a strong squad and return to title-winning form.
