In a thrilling finish to the proceedings at Hagley Oval on Monday on day four, Australia crushed New Zealand, securing a hard-fought three-wicket win in the second Test match to seal 2-0 series sweep. The unbroken 61-run partnership between Alex Carey (98*) and Pat Cummins (32*) led Australia to an emphatic three-wicket win. Earlier, the 140-run stand between Mitchell Marsh (80) and Alex Carey (98*) laid the foundation for Australia’s victory.

The victory not only sealed the series for Australia but also highlighted the dominance of World Champions in the Test format. In the rain-reduced first session, Australia remained unfazed in their chase.

As New Zealand aimed to level the series after their defeat in the first Test, Australia, buoyed by their previous success, came into the game with confidence and maintained their determination despite facing setbacks.

Resuming with their overnight score of 4-34 in their chase of (279), Australia were in dire need of having a match-winning partnership, which was forged by under fire March and Carey who were out cheaply in their previous outings. Down the order, unblemished Pat Cummins stood out with his composed innings, helping his team beat Black Caps in their backyard.

Talking about the game, Put into bat, New Zealand put up a notional total of (162) runs in their first innings. Australia, in response, brought (256) in their first innings with Marnus Labuschange powering the side with his 90-run score. New Zealand, in their second innings, posted (372), finding great scoring from Tom Latham (72), Kane Williamson (51), Rachin Ravindra (82) and Daryl Mitchell (58)
