In a commanding display of performance in their opening game of the ongoing T20I World Cup, South Africa secured a resounding victory over Sri Lanka by six wickets on Monday at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, Sri Lanka faced immediate pressure from South Africa’s disciplined bowling attack led by pacer Anrich Nortje. Sri Lankan innings never quite found its footing as they struggled against a relentless pace and spin attack. Sri Lanka’s wickets tumbled at regular intervals, with no batsman managing to get going. The highest score came from Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews, who both scored (19) and (16) respectively. Proteas with their massive bowling attack bowled out South Africa for (77) in (19.1) overs. Anrich Nortje claimed four wickets, whereas Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj returned with two wickets each.

Chasing a modest target of (78), South Africa were met with a tough resistance from Sri Lankan bowlers. Despite the loss of early wickets, South African batsmen ensured there were no significant hurdles. Opener Quinton de Kock started cautiously, putting on (20 off 27). Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs scored (12) and (13) respectively before losing their wickets. Heinrich Klaasen (19) and David Miller (6) remained unbeaten, anchoring the side to a big win.
