Indian pacer Akash Deeps provides update on his fitness

Since making his India debut in 2024 against England, Akash Deep has been an integral part of team’s Test set-up, helping the side with his batting and bowling. He was recently part of India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. During the five-match Border-Gavaskar trophy against Australia, Akash Deep missed the first two games but returned to the side for the third and fourth Tests.
He didn’t play the fifth Test due to an injury. Giving an update on his injury, Akash said that he is recovering and has been advised rest. He said he will start bowling once he gets the nod from National Cricket Academy (NCA).
“All good. My recovery is on course and since I had been playing non-stop cricket for a considerable period of time, I was advised to off-load (complete rest) for 15 days. I am following the advice of NCA and once they instruct me to start bowling, I will do so," he said as per PTI.
Akash Deep also noted that he only aims to maintain the discipline and bowl in good areas. He feels that it doesn’t matter whether bowl is new or old.
“My endeavour was to maintain discipline, bowl in good areas, and wait for the batter to make a mistake…doesn’t matter if the ball is new, semi-new or old. I would be given a brief that in case I am not getting wickets, I should do the holding job at one end, slow down the game, and run-flow so that things are under control." he said.
