Indian fast bowler Akash Deep has been ruled out of the fourth Test of the ongoing five-match series against England after sustaining a groin injury, adding to the growing list of injury concerns for the Indian side. Indian skipper Shubman Gill, in the pre-match press conference, confirmed Akash’s absence.

Lately, the Indian camp has been rocked by a string of injuries to several crucial players. Alongside Akash, pacers Arshdeep Singh and all-rounder Nitish Reddy have also suffered setbacks. Reddy has been ruled out of the series, while Arshdeep will miss the fourth Test.

“Akash Deep is unavailable, and so is Arshdeep, but we have good players in the team to pick up 20 wickets. It is not ideal to have different bowlers, but we are prepared,” Gill said.

Gill said Kamboj was very close to making his debut. However, he said it will be a toss-up between Prasidh and Kamboj.

"He [Kamboj] is very close to making his debut. We're going to see tomorrow between him and Prasidh as to who's going to make it to the XI,” Gill said.

“We (Anshul Kamboj) have seen him enough. The kind of skillset that he brings to the table is exactly what we want in this team, and he's there because we believe that he can win us the match. Even in the second Test match, when Akash Deep was brought in, a lot of people had questions why he's been brought in, but it's mainly the belief that we have within our squad that any player that comes in the team is able to or can win matches for us,” Gill said.
