Shelley Nitschke inks three-year extension ahead of T20 World Cup

Australia’s women’s cricket team will continue under the guidance of Shelley Nitschke after Cricket Australia confirmed a contract extension that will keep her at the helm until the middle of 2029. The announcement comes at a crucial time as Australia gear up for next month’s Women’s T20 World Cup in England. Nitschke’s fresh three-year deal demonstrates management's confidence in her ability.
Since assuming the duties back in 2022 following the departure of Matthew Mott, Nitschke has helped maintain the team’s dominance on the international stage. The extension means Nitschke will guide Australia through a packed international calendar over the next few years.
Her tenure will include four major global tournaments, among them the 2026 and 2028 Women’s T20 World Cups, the first-ever Women’s Champions Trophy scheduled for 2027, and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, where cricket is set to make a highly anticipated return.
"It's a privilege to continue coaching this team and working with such an outstanding group of players and staff. We've achieved a great deal together, but there's also enormous motivation around what this group can accomplish in the years ahead. There are some major events and exciting challenges on the horizon and I'm looking forward to helping guide the team through the next phase," Nitschke said in a statement.
