"I’m really proud of each and every one": Ajinkya Rahane after KKR's dismal campaign

When the IPL 2026 began to slip away from Kolkata Knight Riders, there was little chance for recovery. KKR had entered the tournament with huge expectations after spending heavily to round up a star-studded squad. However, chaos followed KKR from the very start, suffering six consecutive losses. Injuries also tore through the squad at the worst possible time, upsettling combinations.

Still, under Rahane’s experienced leadership, KKR found a ray of hope midway through the tournament. Rahane has done it in the past, having guided India to a famous win in Australia. Back in 2021, Rahane guided an injury-hit Indian Test side from the humiliation of being bowled out for 36 to one of cricket’s greatest overseas series victories. While KKR failed to make it to the playoffs, they managed to rack up six victories in 14 matches.

"Talking about the kind of season we had, I’m really proud of each and every one. The situation we were in after six games and then from there coming back, keeping the league alive and playing that kind of cricket needed character, a good attitude and resilience. I’m really proud of each and every individual," Rahane said at the post-match presentation.

"Lots of positives (In) the first half of the season there were key moments where we were losing out, but after that, coming back from that it's never easy. IPL is a long tournament with a lot of pressure and high-pressure situations. But again, staying strong, having that character and attitude in every game and trying your best for the team – inside the dressing room we all were really happy. As I said, each and every individual put in that effort by going out there. This season didn’t go our way, and we didn’t qualify, which is disappointing, but I’m really proud of everyone and the kind of effort we put in," he said

Going into the match against DC, KKR had some hope of qualifying for the playoff, but the Rajasthan Royals' 30-run win over Mumbai Indians on Sunday eliminated not only KKR but also Punjab Kings.
