"I don't know what it is about people": Former South African star hits out at critics of Rohit and Virat

India’s seasoned stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli turned back the clock with a massive display of class and composure in the third and final ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday. The duo, under the scanner for their poor form in the first two games, responded in style by putting on a magnificent unbeaten 168-run partnership that powered India to a resounding nine-wicket victory in the dead rubber encounter. Rohit Sharma, leading from the front, was at his fluent best. His innings of 121 not out was a masterclass.
At the other end, Virat Kohli, who headed into the match on the back of two consecutive ducks, played the perfect supporting role. His unbeaten 74 guided India’s chase with calm assurance. Reacting to their performance, former South African cricketer AB de Villiers took a sharp dig at their critics.
"I don't know what it is about people. I'm not sure if I can call them people. Cockroaches climbing out of their holes as soon as players get towards the backend of their careers. Why? Why do you want to pour negative energy into players that have given their lives for their country and this beautiful game of cricket? This is the perfect time to celebrate them," De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
De Villiers stated that both Rohit and Kohli have received a lot of flak over the past few months.
"They have taken a lot of criticism in the last few months. Everyone is just trying to push them down for what reason, I have no idea. Obviously, I am referring to the minority because I think the majority of people celebrate Rohit and Virat and their incredible careers. And it is a fantastic time to celebrate them once again," said De Villiers.
