Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing Women's Big Bash League. Jemimah, who had turned up for the franchise after helping India clinch the maiden ODI World Cup title, will play no further part in the competition for the Heat. She had already played three games before returning to India as part of a pre-arranged commitment. Rodrigues was due to attend the wedding of her close friend and Indian teammate Smriti Mandhana last weekend.

However, the wedding was postponed due to a health issue with Mandhana’s father. Wishing to offer support to Mandhana, Rodrigues requested to remain in India and not return to Australia. Meanwhile, the Heat management accepted her request, releasing her from the squad for the rest of the season.

"It has obviously been a challenging time for Jemi, so while it is unfortunate that she will take no further part in the WBBL, we were more than willing to agree to her request to remain in India. The Heat club obviously wish her and Smriti Mandhana's family all the best for the future," Heat CEO Terry Svenson said.

"Jemi told us she was disappointed not to be coming back and has passed on her appreciation to the club and the Heat fans for being so understanding of the circumstances. She has been in touch with the players and wished them all the best for the rest of their games," Svenson said.

In her three games, Jemimah scored 37 runs at a strike rate of 102.77. As for Heat, they will face Sydney Sixers on Friday.
