Gus Atkinson ruled out of fifth Ashes Test

England’s fast-bowling unit has been dealt another blow, with pace bowler Gus Atkinson ruled out of the fifth and final Ashes Test in Sydney after suffering a left hamstring injury. He picked up the injury during the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), further depleting England’s seam attack.
"Gus Atkinson has been ruled out for the remainder of the Ashes tour after scans confirmed he has sustained a left hamstring injury," ECB said in a statement.
Atkinson suffered the injury on the second day of the match while delivering the final ball of his fifth over in Australia’s second innings. He was visibly uncomfortable after his follow-through and went off the field immediately. As a result, Atkinson did not return to the field for the remainder of the match. Meanwhile, England will not call any replacement. Notably, earlier, Mark Wood was forced to return home with a knee issue, while Jofra Archer was ruled out after suffering a side strain.
