David Warner has locked in another season with Sydney Thunder, signing a one-year extension that will see him continue playing past his 40th birthday. The left-hander was in supreme touch this season, finishing the BBL|15 season as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, piling up 433 runs at a staggering average of 86.60.

Far from winding down, Warner has looked as sharp and destructive as ever at the top of the order. His season was highlighted by a breathtaking unbeaten 130 against Hobart on January 3. That was his second BBL century, coming more than 14 years after his first. Later, he smashed 110 not out against the Sydney Sixers.

“It was certainly a challenging year for us, we are a much better team than what we put on the field this season and were unable to put a consistent game together. But the support from our fans – turning up in numbers every game – it played a massive role in my decision to stay," Warner said in a Thunder release.

“I feel I've got plenty more to give to this team and to this game. I felt pretty comfortable with my performance and was proud to give the team a fighting chance. We’ve already begun reviewing the season and putting the right plans in place to ensure we deliver a much stronger campaign in BBL|16.”

In the BBL15, Thunder finished at the bottom of the table; however, their season was salvaged by the extraordinary form of their marquee batter.
