Maxwell commits to Melbourne Stars with new two-year deal

Glenn Maxwell has pledged his future to the Melbourne Stars, signing a fresh contract that will keep him in the Big Bash League for at least the next two seasons. The agreement was finalised just hours before the league’s contracting embargo came into effect, giving the Stars an early boost as they plan for upcoming campaigns. The extension means Maxwell will remain a central figure in the BBL well beyond his 39th birthday.
"The Melbourne Stars have been a massive part of my cricket career and I'm really passionate about this team having success. I think this current group is building towards something special and I'm confident we're in a place to contend for the title in the next two seasons," Maxwell said in a Stars' release.
Maxwell’s re-signing comes despite a difficult recent season by his own lofty standards. In the most recent edition of the tournament, he managed just 76 runs across eight innings and picked up two wickets. Meanwhile, their latest campaign ended at the knockout stage, extending a frustrating pattern of near misses.
