"It was quite an intense session": Washington Sundar joins Indian squad

Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar has rejoined the Indian squad ahead of India’s second match in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday. Sundar’s return will boost the Indian lineup after weeks on the sidelines due to injury.
Sundar has not featured in competitive cricket for nearly a month since suffering an injury while bowling in the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara. That injury ruled him out of the remaining ODIs and the subsequent five-match T20I series that served as part of India’s final preparations for the World Cup. Sundar shared his excitement about being back with the team.
"It's always nice to be over here with the boys and training. It was quite an intense session, and we ticked all the boxes. We did a very good fielding session, and obviously I got to bowl a lot. And obviously batted as well. So it's really nice to be over here," Washington Sundar said in a video on BCCI.tv.
His rehabilitation journey took him to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, where he spent several weeks working intensively on his fitness and conditioning.
"The atmosphere is amazing. The last three weeks were really good in terms of how I prepared and how much work I've put in myself to sort of come here and to be able to be really ready for the tournament. So just really looking forward to the second game," Washington said.
