India are fine-tuning their preparations for a high-stakes Super 8 encounter in the T20 World Cup 2026 against South Africa, set to be played on Sunday in Ahmedabad. The clash carries added weight, serving as a rematch of the 2024 T20 World Cup final. With the tournament heading into a massive phase, the upcoming match could hugely shape the semi-final race. A win here would give either side a commanding position in the Super 8 heading into the final round of matches.

India, buoyed by strong momentum in the group stage, will aim to assert dominance. So far, they have been unbeaten in the tournament. However, India’s preparations have been clouded by an injury concern involving fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, who came into India's T20I World Cup squad as a replacement for injured Harshit Rana. During a training session on Friday evening, Siraj was struck on his left knee by a powerful shot from all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

According to reports, Siraj was visibly in pain immediately after the impact, requiring medical attention on the field, and was later seen hobbling out of the nets. Notably, Siraj has not been a regular feature in India’s playing XI during the tournament. He has appeared in only one match, which was against the USA, where he impressed with a three-wicket haul.
