"I have 11 dangerous players": Daren Sammy ahead of India vs West Indies clash

As the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup reaches a boiling point, there is huge anticipation ahead of the high-stakes showdown between India and the West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday. For both teams, it is a must-win game to book a spot in the semi-finals. And according to West Indies head coach Daren Sammy, the task at hand resembles a classic underdog tale.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Daren Sammy admitted the magnitude of facing the fan-favourite Indian side on their own soil. However, Sammy was quick to remind about West Indies' win over India in the semifinal of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup back in 2016 at Wankhede Stadium. The West Indies hunted down 193, stunning India in their own backyard.
"Well, they have a saying that history could repeat itself, although it was a different venue. But it is two different teams, two teams trying to move on in the tournament. You're absolutely right. I still think that in order for you to win this tournament, you have to go through India at some point. Tomorrow is that day for us. And we got to play a good game of cricket in order to come out victorious. And I'm excited for the contest.
"As you could see, so many journalists here. The importance of the game. And I am pretty sure they will have, what, 80,000 here tomorrow, and then another 1.4 billion supporting India. So it will still feel like a David and Goliath showdown, but like I said in 2016 - David did defeat Goliath - so that is what I am going to tell my boys tomorrow."
India will enter the match as favourites, buoyed by form and a massive win in their last game against Zimbabwe. However, West Indies have long thrived in moments when expectations are lowest. Moreover, they are carrying an explosive batting line-up.
"I know; I have 11 dangerous players. And India, I am pretty sure they believe they have 11 as well," Sammy added.
