"He brings a unique skill": Tom Moody lauds LSG star Shami ahead of RCB clash

Veteran Indian bowler Mohammed Shami has masterminded one of the most thrilling comebacks in IPL 2026. Appearing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the highly skilful bowler has delivered excellent performances, leading LSG's bowling attack quite intellectually. Though Shami has had four wickets in four matches, his economy rate has been great. He has enjoyed a remarkable economy rate of 6.2 that has helped LSG's relatively young bowling attack.

LSG's cricket director, Tom Moody, has been hugely impressed with the veteran’s bowling qualities that have added a new dimension to LSG’s campaign. Moody lauded Shami for guiding teammates through challenging phases of the game, playing a very major role in the team's success. Meanwhile, LSG, who will face RCB on Wednesday in Bengaluru, will look to bounce back after suffering a defeat in their last outing.

"As we know, he's a world-class bowler. He's come off a very good domestic season, so he's got the work underneath him as well. He looks fit and strong. We know that he brings a unique skill set with the new ball, swinging it both ways and being a real threat in the power play," Moody told reporters.

“He's been terrific for us because he's the senior figure in our bowling attack. He's got great wisdom and leadership characteristics, and he's bringing all that to the table for us. What makes him good is his durability, his ability to swing the ball early, and his pace is still right up there. He's bowling in the high 130s, which is as good as it has been throughout his career. It's a credit to him that he's in that condition.”

Tom Moody also provided a positive update on speedster Mayank Yadav, confirming that the young bowler is ready to go.

"Mayank is ready to go. He didn't come into our thinking early in the tournament because he was still a little underdone. Not from a fitness point of view - his fitness was good - but in terms of bowling loads and feeling comfortable at the crease. We feel he is now at that point. He has worked exceptionally hard. But that does give us a selection headache because our bowling has been pretty solid so far. We just haven't produced the runs to support that," Moody said.
