"I just wanna go home": West Indies head coach as team remain stranded in India amid West Asia conflict

Four days after their elimination from the T20 World Cup tournament, West Indies currently remain stranded in India, with international travel severely disrupted due to the escalating crisis in West Asia. West Indies were knocked out of the T20 World Cup after losing a crucial Super Eight match against India in Kolkata.
Soon after their elimination, players and support staff were scheduled to return home. However, their departure plans were disrupted by a sudden escalation in the West Asia conflict. Meanwhile, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy took to social media to issue a plea, writing on X, "I just wanna go home."
Officials from Cricket West Indies confirmed that they are in close contact with the ICC to ensure safe travel of the players.
"Cricket West Indies (CWI) wishes to advise that the departure of the West Indies Senior Men's Team from India, following their exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, has been delayed due to international airspace restrictions," the board said in a statement.
Now, with many commercial flights either rerouted or suspended due to security concerns in affected airspace corridors, arranging safe passage has been difficult. A number of flights have been suspended due to the ongoing military conflict in West Asia.
