Anil Kumble offers massive advice to Varun Chakravarthy ahead of England clash

Former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble has given advice to Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy ahead of India’s crucial semi-final clash against England at the T20 World Cup 2026. The match is set to take place at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. Kumble believes that Chakravarthy can become even more dangerous by slightly altering his bowling approach against right-handed batters.

According to the former India captain, the mystery spinner should first look to take the ball away from the right-hander before surprising them with deliveries that turn back into the batter. Notably, despite being one of India’s key bowling options in the tournament, things have not entirely gone Chakravarthy’s way in every match, as he has occasionally struggled with consistency, failing to make a notable impact.

"Maybe the analyst can probably pull out how many times is he looking to actually take the ball away from a right-hander. I haven't seen that much. Maybe that's something that he could potentially do. Then, the ball coming back into the right-hander becomes that much more dangerous," Kumble said on ESPNcricinfo.

"Although the batters are not able to pick that every time he bowls, now it seems like the batters are only expecting the ball coming into them, and playing him that way, rather than sort of searching for it. So, maybe he needs to mix a few balls, which goes away from the right-hander, and then possibly bring that back in," Kumble added.

So far in the tournament, Chakravarthy has taken 12 wickets. However, India will be hoping that their mystery spinner finds his rhythm at the right moment to help India overcome England.
